Suspected Impact from 'The Whirlwind' Chinese Insult Controversy: Kim Seon-ho's New Drama Cancels Shanghai Filming

The Korean drama 'Temptation' originally planned for Kim Seon-ho and Suzy to travel to Shanghai, China for location shooting, but the entire shoot was suddenly canceled just before they were set to begin, drawing public attention to the reasons behind this decision.

According to a report by Korean media outlet OSEN on the 15th, the 'Temptation' production team had scheduled filming in China from early to mid-October, with parts of the storyline set in Shanghai. However, shortly before filming began, all China-related activities were abruptly called off. The main cast is currently filming only in South Korea, and the crew is seeking alternative overseas locations, including Vietnam.

There is speculation that the decision to cancel shooting in China may be linked to the recent controversy over 'The Whirlwind' and its alleged insult to China. In the series, lead actress Jun Ji-hyun delivers the line, 'Why does China like war so much? Nuclear bombs might fall near the border,' which angered some Chinese netizens who accused the show of distorting China's image. This backlash led to calls for a boycott and reports that brands she endorsed—such as cosmetics and watch companies—had ended their partnerships with her, although Jun Ji-hyun's side has denied these claims.

Following this controversy, 'Temptation's' sudden cancellation of its filming plans in China has led to speculation about a possible connection. However, the production team responded: 'We did indeed list China as a potential location, but after considering the filming environment and overall circumstances, we decided to make adjustments. The overseas filming locations have yet to be finalized.'
