On the eve of the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to Chinese sovereignty, China's Ministry of National Defense announced on Monday (June 29) that a PLA naval flotilla, comprising the guided-missile destroyer Nanning and the guided-missile frigate Hengyang, will visit Hong Kong for five days starting Thursday (July 2).
The official WeChat account 'National Defense Ministry Releases' reported on Monday morning that from July 2 to 6, the naval flotilla composed of Nanning and Hengyang will visit Hong Kong to organize a series of open tours and cultural exchange activities.
According to 'National Defense Ministry Releases', the purpose of this event is to "enable compatriots in Hong Kong and Macau to gain a more direct and in-depth understanding of the development of national defense and military building in the new era."
Wednesday (July 1) marks the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.
