President Tharman delivered this speech during the inauguration ceremony of the new cabinet held at the Istana on Friday, May 23.
He stated that Singaporeans firmly oppose any external interference in our affairs and the politicization of racial and religious issues. The people are united in defending the nation's sovereignty, and the values of multiracialism and unity.
He pointed out that both the people and all the parties participating in the elections accept the election results magnanimously, reflecting the high degree of trust that citizens have in the national system, democratic processes, and one another.
President Tharman said, "I salute all the parties and candidates who bravely stood for election. They devoted time, energy, and effort, courageously accepting public scrutiny. I also commend all Singaporeans for taking the election seriously, thinking deeply about the issues, and participating in voting with a rational and responsible attitude."
He emphasized that the ultimate winner of this election was Singapore and its people. "We have jointly set the direction for the next phase of nation-building and demonstrated to the world the unity and unwavering determination of Singaporeans as they shape their own future."
