(Seremban, 2nd) Following its defeat in the Johor state elections, Pakatan Harapan suffered another major setback in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state elections—not only did it fail to deliver its "8123" election target, but also saw its seats decline from 17 to 11, losing the Negeri Sembilan state government it had led since 2018.
According to the complete results announced on the Election Commission's official website at midnight, DAP’s seats were reduced from 11 to 9, PKR contested 16 seats but won only 2, and Amanah lost its sole seat in Klawang.
The coalition was led by caretaker Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Aminuddin, who switched to contest in the Linggi seat, securing 6,163 votes but losing to BN incumbent Dato’ Mohamad Faizal by a margin of 2,976 votes; meanwhile, DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook fought hard in Chennah but lost to MCA candidate Siow Kang Joon by a margin of 688 votes.
This time, Barisan Nasional teamed up with Perikatan Nasional, altogether winning 25 seats and taking control of Negeri Sembilan by a two-thirds majority. Among these, BN secured 18 seats and PN obtained 7 seats. The two coalitions swept all state constituencies under the parliamentary seats of Jempol, Rembau, Kuala Pilah, and Tampin.
BN expanded its presence from last election’s 14 seats. All 16 seats contested by UMNO were won; MCA, which did not run in the previous state election, returned to contest this time and won 2 seats, while MIC contested 2 seats but lost both to Pakatan Harapan.
PN also expanded further; PAS increased its seats from 3 to 4. Parti Harapan Negara (WARISAN), which joined PN in July this year, won 3 seats. In addition to Lim Zu An from Gemas, who switched from Bersatu to WARISAN and defended his seat, Danny Rais, the son of former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Tan Sri Rais Yatim, won the Klawang state seat, and Razali won the Sungai Lui seat vacated by Aminuddin's move to Linggi.
As for Parti Gerakan and Malaysian Indian People’s Party, which each contested one seat, neither secured a win.
Bersatu, which terminated political cooperation with PAS and independently contested this state election, failed to retain its sole remaining seat in Labu, which was won by UMNO.
This state election saw a total of 103 candidates contesting. Four independent candidates and three parties—Berjasa (Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front), ASLI (Parti Orang Asli Malaysia), and PSM (Socialist Party of Malaysia)—all failed to win any seats.
In the 2023 15th state election, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional formed a unity government alliance, sweeping 31 seats and jointly forming the state government. At the time, PH won 17 seats, BN got 14, and PN broke through for the first time, winning 5 seats.
With Negeri Sembilan’s unity government breaking down in April this year due to political differences, snap state elections were held. Facing BN’s withdrawal of support and its partnership with PN in the fray, Pakatan Harapan was ultimately unable to retain the state government.
