SIBU,19 June: A car park construction project located in Rh Thomas Palus at Matu Daro’s Sungai Sebedil, Batang Igan, is set to begin soon.
Local longhouse residents are advised to be mindful of road safety during this period.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief councillor Kevin Lau said he and his team would continue working closely with local residents and the Matu Daro District Council to monitor the project’s progress.
“I’m pleased that through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) special allocation for Bawang Assan, the project is now ready to be implemented by the Matu Daro District Council.
“However, cooperation from all parties is crucial to ensure the smooth progress of the work,” he said in a statement today.
The project handover ceremony was conducted by Matu Daro District council to the contractor witnessed by Lau at the site on Jun 16.
A discussion and adjustments were made on various technical details based on feedback from the longhouse chief and residents.
Lau said that during a site visit last year, longhouse chief Thomas had highlighted the pressing issue of limited parking space, particularly during festive seasons when traffic volume increases significantly.
He said the road leading to the longhouse is only wide enough for two vehicles.
“If cars are parked on both sides of the main access route, it could severely obstruct traffic flow, raising serious safety concerns.
“Therefore, our team took the initiative to work with Thomas and the project engineers on-site to plan and optimise the location and size of the parking area to ensure the best possible outcome,” he said.
