Famous Malaysian artist Namewee has stated that he has received a letter from the Federal Court withdrawing all charges, officially declaring him innocent.
Namewee had become involved last year in the case involving the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin and a drug possession case. After being acquitted of three drug-related charges last month, he posted an update regarding the latest developments in the case on Facebook on Friday (19th).
In his post, he shared that the complex emotions he’d felt over the past six months had been lifted in this moment, and that he has finally obtained true freedom.
"To clarify for some friends who may not fully understand the situation: Over the past six months, I’ve been carrying four charges—drug use, drug possession, carrying prohibited substances, and murder."
He said that after going through a full six months, he had just received the official letter of withdrawal from the Federal Court and has finally been formally declared innocent.
"I have always felt very saddened by the passing of Hsieh Yu-hsin and blame myself for not being able to save her. I hope she can rest in peace."
Namewee revealed that he was detained in custody for more than 10 days and underwent all sorts of police investigations, including searches of his residence, office, phones, old phones, and even his entire body, as well as all of his close associates.
"The police used the most advanced equipment and acted with the highest professionalism throughout the entire case, ensuring that nothing slipped through the cracks."
He pointed out that some media reported irresponsibly without verifying facts, and there were also false rumors spreading online. He knows well that even though the investigation results have been released and the law has proven his innocence, his reputation was tarnished over the past six months.
"From the very beginning, I was already given a 'death sentence' by public opinion."
Namewee also expressed his gratitude in his post to the people who had supported him along the way.
"Thank you to every single friend, elder, and my lawyers who helped me along the way. Also, thank you to my good brothers who stood by me through ups and downs, racking their brains and overcoming countless difficulties with me these past six months. If it weren’t for you holding me up behind the scenes, I might have collapsed long ago."
"Of course, I want to thank even more those business owners who still chose to support me in this dark period, as well as all the fans and friends who have always believed in me and stood by my side!"
