(Miri, 3rd) Sarawak's Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that basketball is not only a competitive sport but also an important medium for cultivating the willpower, team spirit, and healthy lifestyle of young people. Seeing all the young players gather with passion for this basketball feast fills me with gratitude and pride for Miri having such a basketball-loving younger generation.
He said that this tournament is not only a competitive showdown but also a crucial platform for promoting basketball exchange between East and West Malaysia. Through this event, players and coaches can enhance interaction and cooperation, deepen mutual understanding and learning, and promote the shared development of basketball culture. He hopes everyone cherishes this rare opportunity, fights hard on the court, and makes progress together through interaction.
Lee Kim Shin made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the "Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin Cup Under-14 Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament" held at Riam Road Secondary School Hall.
"This invitational tournament brings together outstanding youth basketball teams from all over Malaysia, providing a platform for skill exchange and learning. I believe that each participating player will gain growth through the competition, not only improving basketball skills but also cultivating resilience, teamwork ability, and fair competition spirit."
He also said that the development of sports cannot be separated from the support of all sectors of society. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Miri Youth Power Club, Miri Riam Road Secondary School, and all units and staff involved in the preparation. Your efforts have built a stage for young people to showcase and surpass themselves. I hope there will be more similar sports events in the future to provide more opportunities for young people and stimulate their athletic potential.
"I also want to encourage all the young players to cherish this competition opportunity, give it their all, and perform to the best of their abilities. Regardless of winning or losing, they should face challenges with a positive attitude, learn from the competition, draw experiences from their opponents, and continue to progress in their basketball journey."
