Involved in RM250 Million Bribery Construction Project: One Released, One Detained

Kuching, 9th -- A company director with the title of 'Datuk' was granted release by the Kuching Magistrate's Court today, while the detention period for another civil servant was extended by 3 days.

It is understood that both individuals were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly securing a construction project in Sarawak involving an amount of RM250 million through bribery.

The Magistrate's Court today rejected the application by the anti-corruption bureau officer to extend the detention of the 48-year-old 'Datuk' for 7 days, allowing him to be released on bail.

As for the other suspect, a 45-year-old civil servant and engineer, the court approved the extension of detention.

Both were previously detained for 5 days starting from the 5th of this month.

The 'Datuk' company director in the case was represented by lawyers Chen Wen Da and Lin Zuo, while the civil servant was represented by Steven Beattie and Leison.
