(Kuala Lumpur, 8th) Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah pointed out that the government will investigate complaints regarding price hikes following the implementation of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) basic assistance scheme.
He said the government is concerned about discussions on social media regarding some businesses taking the opportunity to increase prices, and emphasized that if such incidents are confirmed, the authorities may invoke the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to investigate and enforce the law.
"The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living will not compromise, to ensure that the true benefits of the aid reach the people."
The Ministry of Finance stated in a statement released on Sunday night (8th) that SARA has proceeded smoothly in its eighth day of implementation. As of 9:30pm yesterday, a total of 1.7 million beneficiaries have utilized the scheme, with cumulative transaction amounts reaching RM102.5 million, and the system transaction success rate remaining at 99.9% for two consecutive days.
The Ministry of Finance said that system optimization and capacity expansion carried out in the past week have significantly improved transaction stability.
"At the same time, we would also like to thank certain supermarkets and grocery stores for offering special discounted prices to beneficiaries."
The government encourages the public to proactively report unreasonable price increases to the Ministry of Domestic Trade. Complaints can be submitted through the following channels:
