(Bintulu, 11th) The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) Bintulu Maritime Zone detained a local fishing boat 2.5 nautical miles north of Samalaju waters at around 6.30 pm yesterday.

Bintulu Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Muhammad Suffian Eldine bin Abdullah said that the Malaysian Maritime patrol boat, which was on patrol under Special Operation Sea Fence 1/2025, Op Tiris 3.0 and Op Permai 01/2019, inspected a local fishing boat that was sailing towards Bintulu waters.

Initial inspection results found that the fishing boat was operated by a crew of five Indonesian citizens including the skipper, aged between 19 and 50.

The fishing boat is suspected of having committed an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988, namely an expired equipment licence which is punishable by a fine.

The local fishing boat and its documents were detained and escorted to the Bintulu Maritime Zone Vessel Detention Centre before being handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Investigation Officer for further action.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency always reminds all maritime communities to comply with all legal regulations before engaging in any activities at sea.

Members of the public who have information and complaints about any suspicious activities or accidents at sea can channel it directly to the Bintulu Maritime Zone Maritime Operations Centre at 086-314 254, or the Sarawak State Maritime Operations Centre at 082-432544 or the 24-hour emergency line 999.
