The UK’s former ambassador to the United States, Mandelson, who is implicated in the Epstein case, was arrested on the 23rd on suspicion of “misconduct in public office.” However, he was released on bail on the 24th and is awaiting further investigation.
London police issued a statement on the 23rd, noting that officers arrested a 72-year-old man at a residence in the Camden area of London on the day. The man has been taken to a London police station for questioning. In order to maintain the fairness and integrity of the investigation, no further details can be disclosed at this stage.
The police did not release the man’s name, but UK media journalists on the scene captured footage of Mandelson being arrested.
After the US Department of Justice released more than three million pages of documents related to the Epstein case at the end of January, the close relationship between Mandelson and the infamous late US businessman Epstein shocked various sectors in the UK. Earlier this month, on the 3rd, UK police launched a criminal investigation into Mandelson, accusing him of improper conduct such as leaking market-sensitive information during his time in public office.
On the 5th, UK Prime Minister Starmer said he had previously trusted Mandelson’s lies and appointed him as ambassador to the US, and issued an apology to the victims of the Epstein case.
