50-year-old South Korean actor Jo Jin-woong was exposed last year for being involved in car theft and a sexual assault case in high school. He was prosecuted for robbery and rape and sent to a juvenile correctional facility. He then suddenly announced his retirement, and the already-filmed ‘Signal 2’ was consequently pulled from the schedule. On June 30, it was reported that tvN will broadcast the series on November 30, and Jo Jin-woong’s scenes will remain completely intact.
Ten years ago, Jo Jin-woong received critical acclaim for his role as a righteous police officer in ‘Signal’. Last year, after filming the sequel ‘Signal 2’, it was originally planned to premiere as a special project for tvN’s 20th anniversary in the first half of this year. However, due to Jo Jin-woong’s juvenile criminal record coming to light, the airing was postponed indefinitely. According to Korean media reports, tvN has now scheduled the series to air as a Monday-Tuesday drama starting November 30, with a total of 8 episodes, expected to conclude on December 22. The reports also point out that the production team had discussed the possibility of using AI face-swapping or editing Jo Jin-woong’s scenes, but ultimately decided to air them in full, without any cuts. However, later, a tvN representative stated, “Broadcast plans have not yet been finalized.”
