After more than five months of military strikes, blockades, and sanctions, U.S. President Trump said that economic pressure on Iran continues to rise, and revealed that Washington is currently adopting a 'low-profile' wait-and-see strategy.
In a brief phone interview with the American news website Axios on the 9th, Trump said: "We're keeping a low profile now."
Just one week earlier, he nearly ordered a large-scale military operation against Iran, but in this interview, he did not issue any new military threats.
He emphasized that Iran's economic situation is "very bad," and claimed they couldn't even pay soldiers' wages, blaming the U.S. naval blockade for worsening the regime's economic crisis.
Trump said: "Right now, we're only having 'semi-official talks' with them. We're watching and observing as Iran endures massive inflation; in reality, they simply have no money left."
Regarding Iran's delay in announcing an agreement with Oman to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump did not show any anger or dissatisfaction.
When speaking about the repeated back-and-forth game between the U.S. and Iran, Trump said: "Everything will turn out fine. There’s always a way. It’s just like playing chess.”
The Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee Approves Hormuz Safety Plan
Meanwhile, on the 9th, the spokesperson for Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Hassan Kashkavi, stated that the general framework of the "Strategic Action Plan to Ensure Security and Development of the Strait of Hormuz" had been approved by the committee.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Kashkavi stated that opinions, both oral and written, from relevant institutions and departments were discussed and reviewed at the committee meeting, with representatives of these bodies in attendance. In the end, the general framework of the plan was unanimously approved by the committee.
