(Kuching, 16th) The Kuching Port Authority (KPA) has set a historic new high, achieving the greatest cargo throughput in its 65-year history.
Kuching Port Authority Chairman and Tanjung Datu assemblyman, Azzu, revealed that last year the KPA handled 325,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), with a total cargo volume reaching 10.42 million tons.
“From a financial perspective, this achievement resulted in a net surplus of RM16 million, reflecting the hard work and dedication of every employee at the Kuching Port Authority.”
Azzu made these remarks last night at the Kuching Port Authority’s 65th anniversary dinner held at a renowned hotel in Kuching.
He added that, building on this accomplishment, the Kuching Port Authority (KPA) will not stop here and plans to construct a new container yard to increase its annual handling capacity by 200,000 TEUs to meet the growing demand from ships and cargo throughput.
In addition, he stated that the vehicle storage area at Senari Port will be expanded by the end of this year, adding 1,000 parking spaces to bring the total capacity to 3,500 spaces.
“This move will make Senari Port an important regional vehicle distribution hub.”
He further added that the Senari Port terminal will also be expanded, with a 250-meter extension to the wharf, at an estimated cost of RM150 million.
