(Kota Bharu, 1st) The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has initiated a special "Ops Tunggak" operation in four states bordering the Malaysia-Thailand border, effective immediately, to intercept illegal foreign vehicles.

Senior Director of the LTA Enforcement Group, Muhammad Kifli, stated that this special enforcement action focuses on Perlis, Kedah, Perak, and Kelantan, aiming to track down violations including foreign drivers with outstanding fines.

"Through this operation, the LTA will take legal action against foreign vehicles, especially those from Thailand.

"The LTA will stop foreign vehicles for inspection, and if any are found to have outstanding fines, the driver will be instructed to pay the fines immediately before continuing their journey."

He said this to the media after attending a special enforcement operation held in conjunction with New Year's Eve.

Muhammad Kifli mentioned that foreign vehicles, particularly from Thailand, are frequently found to violate the law.

"The LTA wants to ensure that not only citizens of our country but also foreign drivers comply with the law and pay any fines they receive."

Regarding the special operation implemented at Vehicle Inspection Centers (PUSPAKOM) nationwide, Muhammad Kifli said the LTA inspected 4945 vehicles at 37 Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centers.

He noted that actions were taken against 1093 vehicles, and 21 were confiscated, recording a total of 829 technical and 811 non-technical violations.
