Kuala Baram Cycling Race to be Held in August – Multiple Road Sections to be Closed and Diverted in Stages

(Miri, 30th) Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lee Ping Chiang, stated in a press release that in conjunction with the “Kuala Baram Cycling Race 5.0”, the authorities will be implementing phased road closures and diversions on August 1 and 2. The public is urged to plan their journeys in advance and comply with police instructions.

The press release stated that this annual event will take place on August 1 (Team Time Trial) and August 2 (Road Race), with the race routes covering Kuala Baram Road, Miri–Bintulu Coastal Road, and Pan Borneo Highway, among other sections.

On August 1 (Saturday), Kuala Baram Road will be closed and diversions will be implemented from 7:30am. The affected area stretches from the Senadin traffic lights to the Kampung Muhibbah junction, and is expected to gradually reopen at 10:00am. Impacted sections include the Senadin traffic lights, Batu Satu Fish Market junction, Kuala Baram Road to Asia Bridge junction, and Kuala Baram Road to Kampung Muhibbah U-turn junction.

On August 2 (Sunday), city roads will be entirely closed from 6:00am, and are expected to reopen at 12:00 noon, while race routes along the way will be closed in stages. The affected routes include City Road, Main Waterfront Road, Tanjung Lobang Road, Luak Road, Bakam Road, Miri–Bintulu Coastal Road to Bekenu junction, Bekenu Road, Meru Road, Old Bekenu Road, Pan Borneo Highway (starting from Bekenu Interchange), and Airport Road, among others.

Additionally, several major traffic lights, roundabouts, and junctions will also be closed or diverted, including City Road traffic lights, Main Waterfront Road and Brighton Road traffic lights, Marriott Roundabout, Tanjung Lobang Road traffic lights, Luak Road traffic lights, Luak Mosque traffic lights, Ah Lu Road traffic lights, Bekenu junction, Meru Road and Old Bekenu Road junction, Kampung Tunku traffic lights, Airport Road traffic lights, Delang Usan Roundabout, and Ah Hong Supermarket traffic lights.

The police urge road users to cooperate and follow the instructions of officers on duty to ensure the smooth running of the event. The public is also advised to use alternative routes where possible, such as Airport Road, Lim Luit Road, and Miri Bypass, and to avoid using the Miri–Bintulu road section from Kampung Tunku traffic lights to Delang Usan roundabout during the event.
