The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that the United States and China are considering launching formal discussions on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI).
The US and Chinese governments are considering putting the issue of artificial intelligence on the agenda for the expected summit between the US and Chinese leaders to be held in Beijing next week.
US Treasury Secretary Bessent will represent the US side in the proposed AI discussions, while China has yet to designate a counterpart official to participate.
This week, Trump stated that he would remind the other side that the US holds a leading position in the field of artificial intelligence.
The Xi-Trump summit is expected to take place next Thursday and Friday (May 14-15). President Trump said that during his visit to China next week, he will discuss the Iran war issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and noted that China has always shown great respect for the US and will not challenge it on this matter.
This week, US Secretary of State Rubio also said at a White House press conference that he is confident the US and Chinese leaders will discuss the Taiwan issue.
