Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, Vice Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, Chairman of Penang Port Commission, and Honorary Consul of Mexico in Penang, has been appointed as an advisor to the Madani Research Centre (MRC). He will engage in the institution’s work in policy research, exploration of public issues, and cross-disciplinary exchanges, contributing to the implementation of the “Madani Malaysia” concept.

Yeoh Soon Hin pointed out that “Madani Malaysia” is not just a set of values and ideas but a long-term national project requiring continuous investment, institutional synergy, and broad-based participation. “The realization of this concept relies on ongoing research, data support, and practical feedback from various fields. Policy discussions that are more grounded in real operational contexts can help enhance policy feasibility and implementation effectiveness.”

When discussing his participation, he noted that tourism, port development, and external relations are key components of the nation’s economic structure and international image. These areas span economic, social, cultural, and international affairs, so relevant policy formulation and implementation demand cross-disciplinary understanding and collaboration.

“This appointment is voluntary and unpaid; it is an obligation to the nation. I am truly honored to be part of this important national think tank and will uphold an attitude of learning and exchange—participating in policy formulation together with researchers and participants from different sectors, and sharing experience in public affairs and international exchange.”

He stated that whether it's tourism development, port construction, or international exchange, all entail long-term planning, regional cooperation, and sustainability considerations. If research efforts can be combined with frontline practical experience, it will contribute to forming a more holistic and forward-looking policy perspective.

Azmi Narayan, Chief Executive Officer of Madani Research Centre, expressed that research institutions play an indispensable role as the nation progresses towards high-quality development and more inclusive governance. Yeoh Soon Hin's role will not only provide rational and forward-looking analysis for public policy but also help build a communication platform among government, industry, and various sectors of society.
