(Miri, 28th) Regarding the request by Stampin Member of Parliament Chong Chieng Jen in the Parliament for the federal government to swiftly disclose the investigation progress of several recent corruption cases in Sarawak, the Sarawak government remains silent about cases involving the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak, the Sarawak State Public Works Department, and Sarawak TV. In response, Sarawak Democratic Action Party Secretary Lin Si Jian has issued a stern call.
He bluntly stated that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should promptly disclose the investigation results to provide a strong explanation to the people of Sarawak.
“Will there be further prosecution of the involved individuals, because apart from detention for investigation, no further prosecution has been seen so far.”
At the same time, he expressed that the Sarawak government, as the managing authority of the involved departments, should take necessary rectification measures. It is not only the anti-corruption commission's investigation, but the Sarawak government itself must also hold the relevant personnel accountable and take targeted rectification measures, rather than avoiding the issue or attempting to cover up the facts. The government's silence not only disappoints the people but also seriously affects the government's credibility.
He lamented that currently, the Sarawak Parties' Alliance holds an overwhelming majority in the Sarawak parliament, with 80 out of 82 seats, which should serve as a crucial force to promote reform and enhance administrative transparency in Sarawak.
However, in recent years, besides carrying out many superficial “development” projects, the Sarawak Parties' Alliance has consistently ignored suggestions and reminders from opposition leaders and has failed to implement necessary reforms at the institutional level, resulting in numerous governance loopholes and rampant corruption cases in Sarawak.
“This incident once again highlights the drawbacks of a one-party system, where absolute power leads to arrogance and corruption.
The people of Sarawak must be vigilant that only a balanced political environment can truly safeguard the interests of the people and prevent administrative abuse. Only when the Sarawak Parties' Alliance faces genuine political competition and supervision will they focus on the people's welfare rather than solely on consolidating their political power.”
Lin Si Jian emphasized that the Sarawak Democratic Action Party will continue to monitor the progress of the case and demands that the government provide an explanation to the people.
