The driver responsible for the wrong-way crash has already been detained.
Videos circulating online in China show that the vehicle involved was a white privately owned car. During the day on the 19th, it sped through a wide intersection in Shuitou Town, Nan'an City, then turned left and continued straight in the wrong direction at high speed without any signs of slowing down, crashing at high speed into the wrong-direction lane. Eventually, it hit the central road divider, leaving the front of the car almost completely destroyed. It also hit a motorcycle in the front, with another motorcycle knocked over nearby.
According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, The Beijing News, and information from the Chinese internet, witnesses from nearby shops stated that the car was moving very fast, knocking down multiple people along the way after driving against traffic. As seen in the video, after the incident, several emergency medical workers rushed to the scene to rescue the injured, and multiple police officers were present to maintain order.
According to reports, relevant government departments in Nan'an City announced that the accident resulted in 2 deaths and 1 injury, and traffic police have responded at the scene. A staff member from the Nan'an traffic police stated that the perpetrator has been detained and that “the cause of the accident has not yet been determined.” The case is currently under investigation.
