Father Pushes Daughter Into River to Drown in Ruthless Bid to Meet Election Eligibility

A shocking murder case has occurred in India. A man, driven by political ambition, ruthlessly pushed his own daughter into a canal to drown due to election eligibility restrictions. The incumbent village head involved in inciting the crime has also been arrested.

This case, which has stunned Indian society, spans Maharashtra and Telangana. Pandurang Kondamangalay from Khlur village in Nanded district, Maharashtra, intended to run for one of the five village council seats but was limited by the state's local self-governance law—which disqualifies any candidate with more than two children.

Pandurang and his wife had a pair of 6-year-old twin daughters and later had a son, totaling three children, thus losing his eligibility to run.

To overcome this barrier, Pandurang tried to falsify his son's birth certificate, and then attempted to give one of the twin daughters, Prachi, up for adoption, but failed both times. Shockingly, the current village head Ganesh Shinde actually encouraged Pandurang to “kill the child” in order to secure election eligibility. On January 29th, Pandurang took 6-year-old Prachi to the Nizamsagar canal in Nizamabad, Telangana, and personally pushed her into the water, causing her to drown.

Several days later, a girl's body was found in the canal. A local police officer circulated a photo of the deceased via messaging apps seeking identification, which soon led Maharashtra police to confirm the girl's identity as Prachi, missing for days. Investigation revealed that during interrogation, Pandurang gave contradictory statements, and mobile phone location data confirmed his presence in Telangana at the time of the crime. After repeated questioning, he finally confessed to the crime.

Telangana police chief P. Sai Chaitanya stated: “After the adoption plan failed, the accused decided to murder his daughter.” Currently, both Pandurang and the village head Shinde, who is suspected of inciting the crime, have been arrested and will face severe judicial prosecution.

This case has reignited controversy in Indian society over local election eligibility rules and has drawn strong condemnation of inhumane crimes committed for political gain.
