(Bandar Seri Begawan, 24th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Xiao Jianguo, expressed his pleasure at gathering with everyone to savor the “Flavors of China.” First, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, the Ambassador extended a warm welcome to all friends attending the “Chinese Cuisine Night: Tasting Guangxi” event, and heartfelt thanks to Laksamana College of Business and the chef team from Guilin Tourism University for their meticulous preparation and dedicated efforts!
Last night, Ambassador Xiao Jianguo delivered remarks at the “Chinese Cuisine Night: Tasting Guangxi” banquet held at Laksamana College of Business.
The ambassador said that food culture is an important treasure of traditional Chinese culture. China is vast, with each place having its own flavors and each taste presenting its own world. These memorable dishes are like a vast encyclopedia, reflecting the grand atmosphere of China’s 5,000-year history, and carrying forward the enduring culture of resilience and virtue. Tasting Chinese cuisine is not only a delight for the taste buds, but also a profound dialogue with China’s millennia-old culture, history, and philosophical ideas. Tonight’s grand feast is both a celebration of taste and a spiritual journey of deeply experiencing the charm of Chinese culture.
The ambassador noted that China and Brunei are friendly neighbors separated by a sea, with a traditional friendship that stretches far back in history, just as a Malay proverb says, “Water cannot be cut.” In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-Brunei relations have flourished and prospered, with continued strengthening of political mutual trust, deepening practical cooperation, and increasing cultural exchanges. Especially in February this year, following the Sultan’s successful state visit to China, the two heads of state reached an important consensus to build a China-Brunei community with a shared future, opening a historic new chapter for the millennia-old friendship and providing fresh impetus for long-term bilateral relations.
The ambassador emphasized that every brick and tile of China-Brunei ties cannot be separated from the wisdom, hard work, and contributions of those present. He took the opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to all friends who have long cared for and supported the development of China-Brunei relations.
“Not long ago, the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs with Neighboring Countries was successfully held, during which President Xi Jinping issued important instructions on promoting the construction of a community with a shared future with neighboring countries, setting the direction for China’s exchanges and cooperation with neighboring countries, including Brunei. Guangxi, sharing mountains and rivers with ASEAN countries, is China’s main international gateway to ASEAN, a new strategic fulcrum for the opening up and development of Southwest and South China, and an important hub for the Belt and Road Initiative. It is always at the forefront of building a China-Brunei community with a shared future and a community with a shared future with neighboring countries.”
The Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor is a landmark project of Belt and Road cooperation between China and Brunei. President Xi attaches great importance to corridor cooperation, requiring the “Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor” to become a dual demonstration project for China-ASEAN regional cooperation and construction of the “New Land-Sea Corridor.”
Currently, both sides are further expanding industrial cooperation in accordance with the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, adding new bricks and tiles to the high-quality alignment of the Belt and Road initiative and Brunei’s “Vision 2035.”
The ambassador noted that tonight, teachers from Guilin Tourism University and Laksamana are specially invited to join hands, using cuisine as a medium and taste as a bridge, to present culinary delights blending Guangxi characteristics with Southeast Asian flavors. Each dish not only carries the unique taste of the Eight-Gui land, but also soaks in the essence of Nanyang’s food culture, allowing people to taste the long-standing cultural links between Guangxi, Brunei, and the entire ASEAN region with each bite. This genuinely lets everyone feel the profound charm of cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity, injecting more cultural connotation into the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor cooperation and providing new inspiration to the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future.
Attendees included the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister of Finance and Economy Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew and his spouse, Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Juanda and his spouse, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Apong and his spouse, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Muhammad Haszaimi and his spouse, Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong, as well as deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, diplomatic envoys in Brunei, and other distinguished guests.
