Renowned Hong Kong actor Fung Shui-Fan passed away yesterday (October 31), at the age of 81. Together with Sammo Hung, Eric Tsang, Charlie Chin, and Richard Ng, he starred in the Hong Kong comedy film series 'Lucky Stars', which was immensely popular in the 1980s and 1990s. One of the most famous classic lines, “Banana you guava,” came from Fung Shui-Fan’s character, Ngau Tau Fan. Now, with two of the 'Lucky Stars' already having passed away, these classic scenes have become a thing of the past.

Fung Shui-Fan was born in 1944 into a Cantonese opera family in Shunde, Guangdong Province. His father, Fung Ching-Wah, was a Cantonese opera martial arts and male lead performer, while his mother, Wu Hui-Nong (birth name Wu Ruoxiao), was also a renowned Cantonese opera singer. The couple had four daughters and one son, with Fung Shui-Fan being the fifth child. In 1950, at the age of 6, Fung Shui-Fan moved to Hong Kong with his family. In 1965, at 21, he was invited by film director Chor Yuen to star in the third film of the 'Black Rose' series, 'The Red Flower Bandit', marking Fung Shui-Fan’s on-screen film debut and launching his acting career, in which he participated in numerous film productions. He later worked as a TV and film director and, after settling in Taiwan in 1986, continued his acting career.
