The United States has recently submitted a Russia-Ukraine peace plan to Ukraine, which involves demanding concessions from Kyiv, placing Ukraine at a difficult crossroads. U.S. President Trump confirmed that Ukraine was given one week to accept the plan, asserting that this is an "appropriate deadline," and stated that Zelensky will have to accept the U.S. proposal.
According to foreign media reports, the Trump administration recently proposed a Russia-Ukraine peace plan that includes Ukraine ceding the entire Donbas region, limiting the Ukrainian military to 600,000 troops, and prohibiting Ukraine from joining NATO, among other terms, all of which cross several of Kyiv’s "red lines."
On the 21st, during an interview with Fox News Radio, Trump said: "I've set many deadlines before, but as long as things are progressing smoothly, you often extend deadlines. But we believe that next Thursday (the 27th) is an appropriate deadline."
Trump said that if fighting continues, Ukraine will eventually lose the territory that must be ceded to Russia under the peace plan.
● "Zelensky must accept what he has not yet accepted"
Additionally, earlier that day, Trump stated to the media at the White House that Ukrainian President Zelensky must agree to this plan, and if Ukraine is dissatisfied with the proposal, the Russia-Ukraine war will simply continue.
He said both Russian and Ukrainian sides have suffered many casualties due to the war; now, in the winter, many large energy production facilities have been attacked.
He said the United States is trying to save many lives, “We have ways to achieve peace,” and that Zelensky will have to agree to this proposal.
When asked by the media about Zelensky's view that Ukraine faces a choice between giving up its dignity or its partners, Trump responded that Zelensky does not necessarily have to be satisfied with this proposal, “but if he doesn’t like it, then they’ll just have to keep fighting.”
Trump also said, “At some point, he (Zelensky) will have to accept what he hasn’t yet accepted.” Not long ago, he had told Zelensky at the White House, “You have no bargaining chips.”
Trump believes that Zelensky should have reached an agreement a year or two ago.
