Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister Anutin registered marriage with his girlfriend Thananon, who is about 20 years younger than him, on the eve of Valentine’s Day.
Anutin is currently 59 years old, while Thananon is 40. On the 13th, the couple invited officers from the Bangkok Laksi District Registry to a private residence to handle their marriage registration; Anutin’s children from previous marriages and close friends were present as witnesses. This is Anutin’s third marriage.
Anutin is also the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party. After completing the ceremony, he returned to work to continue negotiating with other parties about forming a new government.
According to Thai media, Anutin and Thananon chose to register their marriage on Friday, not only to welcome Valentine’s Day on February 14, but also because both of their birthdays fall on the 13th, though in different months.
Their love story began as Anutin frequently visited Thananon’s coffee shop. After more than two years of dating, their relationship became public in April 2022; at that time, Thananon accompanied Anutin, then the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, to official events.
Thananon was born into a Chinese-Thai family in Ranong Province, southern Thailand, and graduated from Thammasat University. She now operates a coffee shop in Ranong called “JaJaa Coffee.”
In an interview last year, she revealed that her first meeting with Anutin was when she was responsible for receiving him at the airport during his visit to Ranong Province. During the visit, Anutin’s team passed by her coffee shop, and the two met again.
Thananon said she wasn’t attracted to Anutin at first sight—in fact, she initially thought Anutin resembled her father. Afterwards, as Anutin visited her coffee shop more often, their interactions increased and she was gradually moved by Anutin’s attentiveness.
She said Anutin values family very much; no matter how busy he is, he always has dinner with his father and regularly arranges family gatherings to spend time with his children. Anutin also knows how to balance work and life—he never brings work stress home.
