Indonesian Fishing Boat Detained for Allegedly Entering Malaysian Waters

(Miri, 11th) The enforcement officers from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri branch detained a foreign fishing boat from Indonesia during a surveillance operation at 5:30 PM, 49 nautical miles northwest of Tanjung Baram.

Miri Maritime Zone Director Captain Khairul Annuar stated that the inspection results showed the boat was engaged in fishing activities within the Malaysian maritime zone at the time of detention. The boat and three crew members, including a captain aged between 22 to 38, have been detained and escorted to the Miri Boat Detention Center (PVT) to be handed over to the Malaysian maritime investigation officers for further investigation.

The case will be investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for allegedly illegally entering and fishing in Malaysian waters. The Malaysian Maritime Agency will continue patrolling and intensifying enforcement actions to prevent illegal activities within territorial waters.
