(Miri, 18th) Miri District Chief and Disaster Management Committee Chairman Galong Analuwang stated that based on the latest report from the Meteorological Department, the weather in Miri has gradually returned to normal. Although there will still be sporadic rain, the overall situation is stable. Therefore, except for residents of the 9 severely affected houses in Kampung Lereng Puji, other affected area residents are permitted to return home from today.
Galong Analuwang said that this decision was made after discussing at the regional development committee meeting held yesterday and consulting the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee. In addition, the Meteorological Department has confirmed all high-risk areas, and local villagers are also aware of the relevant situation.
“Among the affected areas, there are 9 houses in more severely affected areas, so residents are temporarily not allowed to return to ensure their safety. As for residents in other areas, they can gradually return home starting today.”
He added that the police will close the action station today. Previously, the police set up the action station in the village to ensure the safety of the villagers' properties and prevent residents from entering areas still at risk.
In addition, he also pointed out that relevant units will conduct a cleanup operation in Kampung Lereng Puji this Saturday to assist affected residents in restoring their homes. The Kampung Haji Wahid area was not affected by landslides and other disasters, so it is not a priority for cleanup.
