(Miri, 1st) The Deputy Minister of Health, Malaysia, Dato' Lukanisman, stated that over 50 longhouses and villages in the Practical District, affecting over 10,000 people, have been impacted by the most severe flooding in recent years in this constituency.
Also the Member of Parliament for the Practical District, Dato' Lukanisman mentioned during an interview that one of the biggest challenges in the past few days of rescue operations was telecommunication issues. We have completely lost contact with the outside world. There is no electricity, no water, and no communication services. Therefore, obtaining and transmitting information is very difficult.
Currently, two temporary relief centers (PPS) have been established in the constituency, but the earliest operational Practical Arena Temporary Relief Center has been flooded, so the affected people have been relocated to the Bagan Nyu Relief Center, and more relief centers are planned to be opened in the coming days.
"We are working to open more relief centers in Kampung Bungai and Kampung Selanyau."
"We also have volunteers responsible for searching for the 77 candidates scheduled to take the Malaysian Education Certificate Examination (SPM) this week, and yesterday successfully found two students who will be taking their exams at Miri Tanjung Lobang National Secondary School."
Regarding food aid, he stated that the current supply is sufficient, but the affected people at the relief centers need blankets, pillows, towels, and mattresses more.
