Malaysia's new emergency call system, the "Next Generation Emergency Services" (NG999), was officially launched on Saturday (November 16), replacing the previous "Malaysia Emergency Response 999" (MERS999) system.

According to a text message sent on Saturday (November 15), the authorities encourage the public to download the SaveME999 app from the AppStore or Google Play, in order to transmit emergency information more accurately, quickly, and effectively.

The message also reminds: "Please do not misuse the emergency hotline."
NG999 is a comprehensive strategic digital system designed to strengthen resource and data sharing between emergency call centers and relevant agencies, thereby enhancing the efficiency of emergency services.

Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching mentioned on July 1 last year that the new system integrates web-based digital maps, caller identification, geolocation services, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and smartphone applications to handle national emergencies more effectively.

She said the NG999 system has been expanded to cover more than 800 locations nationwide, which is double the number of locations originally covered by MERS999.
