Miri Immigration Raids on Illegal Workers: 31 Foreign Workers and Employers Arrested

(Miri, 30th) — The Miri Immigration Department Enforcement Unit recently launched several joint operations, including 'Ops Sapu' (Raiding Operation), 'Ops Mahir' (Technical Operation), 'Ops Belanja' (Guest Operation), and 'Ops Selera' (Taste Operation), in a comprehensive effort to combat the issue of illegal foreign workers.

A total of 14 enforcement officers participated in this operation, targeting five locations within Miri city. In the operation, 39 individuals were inspected, and 31 were arrested for allegedly violating immigration laws, including 25 men and 5 women. Additionally, an employer suspected of hiring illegal foreign workers was also arrested.

The Immigration Department stated that those arrested were involved in violations of Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963; the employer involved will be investigated under Section 55B of the same act.

The Sarawak Immigration Department emphasized that it will continue to strengthen enforcement actions in the future, urging the public to actively provide information on illegal foreign workers through official channels, in order to jointly maintain social peace and security.
