(Miri, 20th) The three-day Fumeng Cup elementary school mixed boys and girls basketball and volleyball tournament concluded successfully on the 17th of this month (Sunday) at Lianzhong Lidefu Gymnasium. The event attracted 11 elementary schools to participate, with young athletes sweating and displaying youthful vitality at the arena, bringing the audience a series of intense and exciting sports feasts.
Event coordinator, teacher Li Shihao, mentioned that Lianzhong has been holding the elementary school basketball tournament annually since 2006, and added a volleyball tournament since 2019, providing more platforms for elementary students who love basketball and volleyball to compete and grow. This year's Fumeng Cup continues this tradition, sponsored by Fumeng Group. As a traditional strong team in the Miri School Sports League (MSS Miri Bola Keranjang), Lianzhong basketball and volleyball teams have made remarkable achievements. The girls' basketball team has won for 12 consecutive years, and the boys' team is on a two-year winning streak; the girls' volleyball team has 12 straight wins, and the boys' team has 11 consecutive wins. The school has also nurtured many outstanding players, including initial national players and 2024 Sukma players Wang Yurou and Yao Yiting, as well as several state players like Jiang Jinzhe, Duolisi, and Su Lijie. In July, the volleyball team represented Malaysia in Nanning, Guangxi, China, to participate in the China-Malaysia 50th Anniversary Volleyball Exchange Camp. In May, player Zhang Yuen represented Malaysia in the Under-18 Southeast Asia Women's Volleyball Tournament, fully showcasing Lianzhong's strength in talent cultivation. Li especially mentioned that players who won individual awards in this tournament would receive Lianzhong full scholarship invitation cards, allowing them to enroll with full tuition-free benefits, welcoming all elementary school graduates who love basketball and volleyball to join Lianzhong and continue the glory.
Lianzhong principal Jiang Peijuan stated that as a traditional event of Lianzhong, this activity not only showcased the excellent skills of the participating athletes but also reflected the deep connotation of teamwork and sportsmanship. The success behind this could not be achieved without the full support of all teachers and students involved in the event, making the games so wonderful. Principal Jiang expressed that sports is not just a competitive activity, but an important way to shape character and temper will. At Lianzhong, "discipline" is not only a learning attitude but also the foundation of success. Whether in academics, sports, or in future life paths, only by insisting on self-discipline and firm goals can one continually surpass oneself and move towards excellence. She further encouraged sixth-grade students to join Lianzhong School, to stand on this stage of nurturing dreams and achievements, to pursue excellence together with their seniors, and to achieve comprehensive development and become a better self in a rigorous academic environment and diverse sports platform. Lianzhong welcomes every student with a dream to write their own glorious chapter with sweat and effort.
Closing guest Kapitan Yu Jixiang shared with the athletes present that sports and education actually have profound commonalities. Schools are not only halls of knowledge but also cradles of spiritual growth and character building. Athletic sports are an important part of this process. On the competition field, what we pursue is not only scores and victories but also an unyielding belief, the courage to surpass oneself, and selfless dedication to the team. Sports teach us that success is not the ultimate goal; the real gain is the spiritual tempering and will sharpening, learning how to face failures and setbacks, and how to rise courageously after falling. As we learn in the classroom, while pursuing knowledge is important, having a spirit of continuous exploration and a willingness to climb is equally indispensable. On the future road, challenges and competition are everywhere, but as long as we always keep the courage and fighting spirit shown on the field today, we can achieve our own victories in every corner of life.
Principal Jiang Peijuan expressed the hope that through such events, more outstanding students who dare to dream and break through can be nurtured, allowing the spirit of sports to be inherited and carried forward.
