Indonesian police have discovered a total of 7 homemade bombs at the Jakarta high school where the explosion occurred, of which 4 have been detonated.
At a press conference on the latest developments in the case on the 11th, Jakarta police pointed out that among the 7 homemade bombs, 2 were located inside the school's mosque, 4 in the campus garbage area, and another 1 placed in an outdoor reading area.
Police stated that the bomb in the reading area used a beverage can as its casing, was equipped with a fuse, and had a remote control device placed nearby. Based on preliminary analysis, the suspect very likely used the remote control to detonate it from a distance.
At around 12:30 p.m. local time on November 7, an explosion occurred at National Senior High School No. 72 in North Jakarta, resulting in a total of 96 people injured.
Jakarta Police Chief Asep confirmed that the suspect involved was a student at the school. According to the investigation, the suspect is introverted, rarely interacts with others, and has shown a clear interest in violent and extremist content.
Police have so far summoned and questioned 16 witnesses, and have also searched the suspect’s residence.
A medical officer in charge stated that the suspect suffered a head injury during the incident and has undergone surgery. Police will continue with further questioning after the suspect recovers.
