In recent years, Hong Kong celebrity Choi Yat-Kit has suffered from a series of health problems. After suddenly developing shingles in 2021—which had him exclaiming, “The pain was unbearable!”—he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2024 and had to undergo emergency brain surgery. While the procedure was initially considered successful, his primary doctor later revealed that the cancer had already spread. Nevertheless, Choi Yat-Kit did not lose heart; instead, he intensified his physical training and managed to return to the stage in April this year, performing with Choi Yat-Chi and So Chi-Wai at the 40th anniversary concert of Grasshopper, and subsequently embarking on a world tour.
According to close friends, aside from undergoing Western medical cancer treatment, Choi Yat-Kit also sought out his personal traditional Chinese medicine doctor to receive treatments aimed at boosting his own immune system. In addition, he tries to make time for his favorite activities. He candidly stated that when feeling down or experiencing low moods, he focuses on playing mahjong, which helps him forget his troubles and lifts his spirits. Laughing, he even claimed that his luck is extraordinarily strong—having once achieved a self-drawn “Kan Kan Hu”—so “playing mahjong can cure all illnesses.”
Furthermore, Choi Yat-Kit, who previously launched a cooking channel and published a cookbook, has also returned to his passion for cooking. Recently, East Week magazine reported spotting him driving to the Kowloon City Market, where he first purchased a large bag of vegetables before heading to a dried goods store, presumably following his Chinese medicine doctor's advice to buy nourishing products. He was seen in high spirits, chatting and laughing with a female shop assistant, who appeared to be a familiar face; another male employee helped him carry several bags of “spoils” to his car.
