(Kuching, 3rd) The Sarawak government is intensifying efforts to combat drug abuse by introducing advanced technologies, including Instant Visual Drug Detectors (IVDD) and other cutting-edge tools.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Prime Minister's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Hasidah announced that the Sarawak government has provided 19 IVDD machines to support drug detection operations.
She stated at a press conference today that under the leadership of the Sarawak Premier, the Sarawak government has allocated 19 IVDD to help detect drug users.
She mentioned that the total cost of the IVDD machines and backscatter scanners is 1.7 million ringgits.
Additionally, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) provided handheld backscatter detectors valued at 450,000 ringgits.
Hasidah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Samalaju, emphasized that this initiative reflects the government's commitment to addressing the growing drug problem among youth and the community.
"We have also approved the deployment of detection dogs for strategic locations such as airports and parcel delivery centers."
She stated that there are 11 areas that applied for this measure, including Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri among the 11 regions.
These detection dogs will not only be used for anti-drug operations but will also assist in detecting explosives and other criminal investigations.
