Teen Missing at Kuala Baram Batu Satu Beach Suspected Drowned

(Miri, 15th) A 16-year-old teenager went missing yesterday evening at Pantai Batu Satu, Kuala Baram, suspected to have drowned while playing in the water with friends.

Mohd Khairol Anuar bin Saad, Maritime Captain and Head of the Miri Maritime Enforcement Agency, issued a statement last night stating that according to the preliminary report, the teenager and three friends went to the beach to swim at around 4 PM.

 “At 5 PM, the teenager's friend informed his mother that he was missing and suspected of drowning.”

Upon receiving the report, the Maritime Enforcement Agency immediately dispatched two maritime enforcement boats to the scene for an initial search.

Units involved in the Search and Rescue Operation (CARILAMAT) include the Malaysian Royal Police Marine Unit (PPM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), and related departments.

According to the report from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the wind speed in the Kuala Baram sea area at the time of the incident was 20 to 30 km/h, with waves about 1.0 to 1.5 meters high and rainfall in certain areas.

The Maritime Enforcement Agency urges the public to remain vigilant when engaging in maritime activities and to wear life jackets to prevent accidents.
