(Kuching, 15th) Police confirmed that the ethnic driver who caused the accident without a license yesterday is a 16-year-old boy, and after receiving treatment at the hospital, he has been detained by the police.
Kuching District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Bin Abdullah stated in a press release last night that the fatal car crash, which occurred yesterday noon on the route from Kuching Stutong Baru towards the airport, has resulted in a death toll of 5 people, with 3 others sustaining minor to severe injuries.
It is reported that the ages of the 5 deceased range from 16 to 45 years old. Four of them died on the spot due to severe injuries, while another 16-year-old classmate of the driver was declared dead at the hospital around 6 PM yesterday after rescue efforts failed.
In response to this fatal accident, the police will investigate under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (reckless or dangerous driving causing death), and the driver has been detained for investigation.
