Hospital Security Guard Becomes 'Toy Hero': Viral Sensation Still Stays at Post to Spread Love

Recently, a Chinese netizen posted a video claiming they saw an extraordinary security guard at Dalian Children's Hospital. This guard was covered head-to-toe in all kinds of toys, calmly walking through the infusion area, and was described by netizens as "so full of love." Some in the comments recognized him as the hospital's famous "Toy Hero." Despite becoming a trending topic online—and even being invited to appear on the Spring Festival Gala—this "Toy Hero" didn’t leave the hospital for better opportunities, but continued quietly delivering love in his post.

The video shows the guard, dressed in a black uniform, covered in plush toys such as teddy bears and penguins. Because there are so many toys, he walks with his arms slightly outstretched, creating a warm, robust figure. Nurses nearby seem used to his attire and show no surprise.

According to a 2023 CCTV News report, the guard's name is Yu Jingjing. While working at Dalian Children's Hospital, he became famous for always having toys hanging from his body. Whenever a young patient was nervous or uncomfortable and began to cry, he would approach and offer them a small toy, often bringing a quick smile to the child's face. Netizens lovingly call him the "Toy Hero," praising his kind acts for soothing countless children’s fears about visiting the doctor.

It all began by chance. Once, while on duty, Yu Jingjing found a toy and hung it somewhere visible on himself, hoping the owner would spot it. After that, he and his colleagues found more lost toys. After disinfecting them, he attached them to his uniform—all with a badge reading "If you need help, please call me"—creating a "mobile lost and found station."

Unexpectedly, many crying young patients were attracted to the toys and gradually calmed down. Inspired by this, Yu Jingjing began to purchase new toys himself to carry around, proactively giving toys to uneasy young patients to help parents ease their children’s anxiety.

According to Jimu News reporters, compared to earlier reports, the number of toys carried by the "Toy Hero" has clearly increased, showing the ongoing reach of his kindness. Even more touching, on February 5, 2024, Yu Jingjing received an invitation to perform at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala and appeared live on stage on New Year’s Eve.

He said at the time: "I will still carry these toys and bring hope and joy to children all across the country. I hope to become a beam of light illuminating children’s lives."

On January 19 this year, Jimu News reporters contacted Dalian Women and Children's Medical Center, Xiwang Plaza Children's Branch. Staff confirmed that the "Toy Hero" was still working as a security guard at the hospital and had not changed jobs or left because of his online fame. That very day, he was on duty.

A Dalian citizen who once brought her child for treatment shared that when her son was scared and did not want to cooperate during an eye exam, the "Toy Hero" learned of the situation and immediately gave the child a toy for encouragement, allowing the exam to proceed smoothly.

This security guard’s heartwarming deeds have become not only a unique sight in the hospital, but have also moved people both in China and abroad. In the clinical scent of disinfectant, he demonstrates the gentleness and care inherent in humanity through the simplest means, showing us that even a small toy can be the sunlight that illuminates a child’s heart.
