Bak Kut Teh Shop Assault Involves Perpetrator from 7-Year-Old Violent Case; Lim Lip Eng: Victims Hope Police Bring Justice

(Kuala Lumpur, 18th) Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng from the Democratic Action Party announced that on Sunday (May 17), he met with a pair of brothers who claimed that the suspect who stabbed them 7 years ago is believed to be one of the suspects in the recent 3-person assault at the Kepong Bak Kut Teh shop.

He said the two brothers have lodged another police report last week, requesting the police to reopen the investigation into the case from back then, and to clarify why the perpetrator has yet to be arrested.

Lim stated that according to the victims’ complaints, more than one person was involved in the incident back then. Besides the currently identified suspect, another man and a woman also attacked them at the scene. The older brother suffered serious injuries, requiring over 70 stitches and incurring medical expenses of about RM 100,000.

"A person was stabbed and required over 70 stitches, with medical expenses amounting to RM 100,000, yet the case has dragged on for 7 years without clear explanation. This is definitely not a trivial matter. The police must provide the victims with a definitive answer and also respond to the public."

He said he would request the Selangor police to arrange an identification parade for the victims as soon as possible, and explain why no one was arrested in the earlier investigation, as well as why the victims were not clearly informed about the progress of the investigation.

Lim added that if the same group of people are suspected of being involved in violent incidents even years later, the police cannot handle them as isolated cases, and must take the matter seriously.

"Seven years is long enough. The police must uncover the truth and deliver overdue justice to the victims."
