U.S. President Trump said on the 14th that it was First Lady Melania who convinced him that Russian President Putin repeatedly broke promises about reaching a peace agreement with Ukraine.
Fox News reported that Trump spoke to reporters present while meeting with NATO Secretary General Rutte at the White House Oval Office regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that during his conversation with Putin, discussing an agreement to end the conflict, it was Melania who reminded him that Putin kept making false promises.
Trump said: "I went home and told the First Lady, 'You know, I had a phone call with Vladimir (Putin's first name) today. We had a very pleasant conversation.' She replied, 'Oh, really? Another city was just bombed.'"
Recalling another similar exchange, Trump continued: "Sometimes I’d come home and say, 'First Lady, I just had a very pleasant talk with Vladimir. I think we’re almost there.' Then I’d turn on the TV, or she would tell me, 'Wow, that’s strange, because they just bombed a nursing home.' And I’d say, 'What?'"
Fox News pointed out that the Russian side has repeatedly used drones and missiles to attack Ukraine after phone calls between Putin and Trump. Last week, Trump expressed frustration, saying he was unhappy with Putin, "because he is killing a lot of people." (News source: United Daily News)
