The UK Ministry of Defence stated on the 4th that the British and French air forces jointly carried out a military operation to strike an underground facility occupied by 'Islamic State' (IS) in Syria, aiming to prevent the regrouping of remnants of the organization.
According to a statement from the UK Ministry of Defence, the target was located in the mountainous area several kilometers north of the ancient city ruins of Palmyra, Syria. After precise intelligence analysis, it was confirmed that the underground facility was used by IS for storing weapons and explosives, and that there were no civilians living nearby, so as to avoid harming the innocent.
The UK Ministry of Defence said the operation was carried out on the evening of the 3rd. British Typhoon fighter jets, with the support of Voyager air refueling aircraft, cooperated with French warplanes, using precision-guided bombs to attack the entrance tunnel of the facility. Preliminary assessments indicate the target was successfully destroyed and all participating aircraft returned safely.
