(Miri, 21st) Pei Min Middle School is renowned for its unique education model and multilingual education, providing students with opportunities for all-round development. Wu Xinyi, who graduated from the single-track Arts stream of Pei Min Middle School in 2020 and hails from Pu Yi Chinese Primary School, is currently pursuing a Diploma in Business Management with a major in Marketing at IBS College locally, thanks to her solid academic foundation and rich experience in extracurricular activities.
Wu Xinyi humbly stated that although her English proficiency is only at the passing level, she has no major obstacles in English listening and communication. She believes that improvement in language proficiency largely depends on individual effort and chosen field of study, and that lack of foreign language skills should not be blamed on the school.
She specifically emphasized the widespread recognition of the UEC (Unified Examination Certificate) diploma from independent Chinese secondary schools, pointing out that many countries, including Western nations, recognize it, whereas the Malaysian Education Certificate does not necessarily provide opportunities for further studies in Taiwan and China.
“Although English is not my strong suit, I am still able to complete my studies smoothly in an English-teaching environment. As long as you take the first step, the rest is just hard work,” she said, adding that the knowledge foundation of independent Chinese school students is in no way inferior, and may even be stronger, because Pei Min’s curriculum is more challenging compared to national secondary schools.
She is glad that she chose an independent Chinese secondary school. During her final year of high school, she was already exposed to some Diploma-level course content, which has made her studies at IBS College smoother.
Wu Xinyi pointed out that Pei Min Middle School places an emphasis on developing students’ skills in event planning, self-confidence, sense of responsibility, and communication ability, which naturally made her a team leader in university. Due to her excellent performance, she was even recommended to take up an important role in the Public Relations Department of the Student Council.
Despite inevitably facing language challenges in her studies, she overcame obstacles by memorizing vocabulary, ensuring excellent results in group presentations and exams.
“A diploma is a ticket to entry; experience is the real determinant and key to starting salary. Everyone’s life is different. Just do well in what’s in front of you — this is learning, and learning can also become a second chance.” she concluded.
