(Bintangor, 17th) The Sarawak government, through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), continues to be committed to improving the safety and well-being of the people by allocating funds to implement a rewiring project at Rumah Panjang Regina (Regina Longhouse) on Sungai Selidap.
The project has been fully completed, and the longhouse residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as it provides a more comfortable and safer living environment for over 100 residents.
Maradong State Assemblyman Dato Chieng Kuok Eng stated that this project, which covers 22 house units, cost a total of RM99,000.
He said the rewiring project commenced on August 20 this year, lasted for three months, and was successfully completed on November 19.
He pointed out that the main focus of the project is to ensure residents' safety, as the original wiring system was messy and could cause short circuits and fire risks.
“I am very pleased that this RTP project has been completed as planned and brings tangible and direct benefits to the residents,” he told the media today after witnessing the project handover ceremony.
He added that the rewiring works were carried out in accordance with current technical specifications to minimize fire risks and ensure electricity is used more efficiently and safely.
On another note, he mentioned that the Public Works Department of Sarikei served as the implementing agency, while the contractor was selected through a ballot process.
He added that this approach aligns with established government procedures and guidelines, ensuring transparency and efficiency during the execution of RTP projects.
Chieng Kuok Eng emphasized that the project's successful implementation demonstrates the Sarawak government's ongoing commitment to promoting rural development projects and genuinely improving the quality of life for the people.
