(Dalat, 2nd) The remains of 21-year-old Jeffery Masing Win, who was dragged away by a crocodile while bathing in the Sungai Semanok river last Saturday, have been confirmed by his family after they were found inside a 16-foot crocodile during a search and rescue operation yesterday.
According to the Dalat Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), during the afternoon of the fourth day of the search and rescue operation, two other crocodiles were also captured, but no human remains were found in their stomachs.
This 16-foot crocodile was first spotted and caught by villagers yesterday morning, and was then brought to the riverbank at Rumah Win.
Around 10:30am, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) officers, with assistance from firefighters, dissected the crocodile and discovered human remains including the head, jaw, abdomen, and thigh tissues.
These remains have been handed over to the police for processing and later confirmed by the victim’s family.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, Jeffery and his elder brother were bathing by the riverside near their farm hut when the crocodile suddenly attacked. Although his brother desperately rushed at the crocodile in an attempt to save him, Jeffery was still dragged into the river.
The search and rescue operation officially ended at 4:16pm.
