The Chinese variety show “Call Me By Fire 2025” aired its latest episode yesterday (15th). The “Greater Bay Brothers Team,” composed of Pakho Chau, Julian Cheung, Jordan Chan, and Jerry Lamb, performed Stefanie Sun’s “Starting to Understand” on the first public stage. However, the results were not as expected. During rehearsals, Jordan Chan once forgot the lyrics, and the director harshly criticized the performance as terrible: “You guys have come two or three times already, you’re the strongest Greater Bay Brothers, but honestly, this is the worst performance I’ve seen from you on this stage. The singing didn’t sync, the performance was off, there was no interaction between you, really eye-opening. I don’t think this represents your level. I don’t want to say these things, but it was really a bit terrible, totally unqualified.” The four men hung their heads in disappointment; even Pakho Chau agreed: “Here, the four of us have never once sung in sync.” The hashtag “Worst Performance in ‘Call Me By Fire’ History” even trended online, with many netizens feeling bad for them and saying, “It wasn’t that bad.” Some felt the show was using them to stir up discussion.
In the actual competition, the four did much better than in rehearsal, yet still landed in the danger zone. Julian Cheung comforted his teammates: “Don’t be so sad, okay?” Jordan Chan replied helplessly, “How could we not be upset.” In the end, their team’s score ranked second to last among all teams, narrowly avoiding elimination. Despite this, Jordan Chan couldn’t help but shed tears, blaming himself for not performing well enough.
