The Public Accounts Committee is expected to summon more than 10 witnesses in February to investigate Malaysia airport management issues.
According to a report by Malaysiakini, the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati, confirmed that the committee will hold hearings during the House of Representatives session from February 3 to March 6, to investigate issues related to Malaysia airport management.
She mentioned that the investigation targets are expected to include the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport, Khazanah Nasional, and the Employees Provident Fund, with over 10 witnesses to be summoned, including relevant stakeholders.
She noted that the hearings will cover all issues related to Malaysia airport management, including the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings shares to the "Gateway Development Alliance" (GDA), the allegedly high airfare prices in Sabah and Sarawak, and airport facilities, particularly the delay in the installation of the Aerotrain at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1.
The Employees Provident Fund defended its decision on Wednesday to sell the shares at a lower price and repurchase them at a premium, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Member of Parliament Wan Saiful Wan Jan subsequently called for an investigation by the Public Accounts Committee into the matter.
Additionally, the Malaysian Chinese Association has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate whether insider trading is involved in this matter.
