A Filipino maid in Singapore, taking care of her employer's one-year-old baby boy, is suspected of abusing the child 21 times over a span of just five months. She allegedly slapped the baby, pinched his ears, and treated him roughly; she was charged in court on the 16th.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the defendant, 29-year-old Nukoma, was charged in the State Courts with violating the Children and Young Persons Act, causing unnecessary pain to the one-year-old baby boy.
The charge sheet indicates that the defendant is accused of abusing the baby boy at least 21 times from March 5 to July 23, 2024, during her employment to care for him. She allegedly lifted and flipped him roughly, slapped his head and body, pushed his head, and pinched his ears.
After being charged, Nukoma expressed her intention to plead guilty, and the case was adjourned to June 6 for trial.
If convicted of child abuse, offenders can face a maximum jail term of eight years, a fine of up to 8,000 SGD, or both.
