(Kuching, 4th) The 2025 Borneo Games will be held from September 24 to 28 at the Petra Jaya Sports Complex in Kuching, with teams from six regions—Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Brunei, West Kalimantan and East Kalimantan—confirmed to participate.
Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim, stated that this year27s games feature a total of eight sports, including five core sports, two traditional sports, and one special VIP event, which is golf.
“The mentioned core sports include badminton, lawn bowls, archery, athletics, and swimming. The two traditional sports are blowpipe and tug-of-war.”
As for the exclusive VIP golf event, no medals will be awarded.
Abdul Karim made these remarks at a press conference after chairing a sports coordination meeting today.
He also announced that athlete registration for all participating teams will begin on July 14, 2025, and close on August 29, providing each nation, region, and province over a month to coordinate their participation arrangements.
He added that there are also plans to provide a dedicated space for entrepreneurs from participating countries and regions to promote their products during the games.
“At the very least, entrepreneurs from the participating countries, states, and provinces will have space to take part in the event.”
He explained that Sarawak is providing them with a platform to sell their products as much as possible, and believes this move can further strengthen friendships and connections among entrepreneurs outside the sports community.
Abdul Karim noted that after being previously held in the Federal Territory of Labuan in 2013, the Borneo Games will be held again in 2025.
He added that this is more than just a sporting event—it's a platform for strengthening cross-regional cooperation, preserving traditional sports heritage, and building a network of regional friendships.
