Natural Gas Pipeline Leak Causes Towering Flames in Subang, Selangor; Loud Explosion Heard 20 Kilometers Away

(Kuala Lumpur, 1st) The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that a natural gas pipeline leak occurred this morning in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, with towering flames estimated to rise over 100 feet, equivalent to about 30 meters.
The department initiated firefighting operations after receiving an emergency call at 8:23 AM. Fire and Rescue Director Dato' Nor Hisham reported that by 1:55 PM, the flames had gradually weakened and the area of the fire had reduced.
He stated that the flames from the incident were estimated to rise over 100 feet, with temperatures reaching up to 1000 degrees Celsius.
Despite this, he said the department is still monitoring the incident site.
Prior to this, Subang constituency MP Wong Chee Kuan mentioned on Facebook that the Subang Jaya Municipal Council Rapid Action Team (PANTAS) also rushed to the scene to assist the fire department.
He shared photos of the incident scene and advised nearby residents to stay vigilant, praying for the safety and strength of all affected, and hoped the firefighters could successfully extinguish the blaze.
Additionally, a TikTok user named Perodua PuchongJayaJeffry streamed a live video showing that although the fire had been raging for over an hour, as of 9:37 AM, it was still fierce.
He stated that he heard a loud explosion and then saw high flames, and despite being about 20 kilometers away from the incident site, he could feel the heat of the flames.
He added that the fire brigade was on site, beginning firefighting and rescue operations.
A citizen living nearby in USJ 9 said that the fire lasted for over 3 hours, but the flames have gradually weakened.
This 70-year-old man, Halban Sing, when interviewed, stated that he noticed the incident at 8:25 AM while preparing to go for a jog.
“Initially we saw towering flames, now after almost 3 hours, the flames aren't as high as before. Residents nearby could feel the heat, some reported that glass windows in houses shattered from the extreme heat.”
Another resident living in the Taman Tasik Prima area, K. Bamawathy, stated that even though her residence is about a 10-minute drive from the incident site, she could still feel the impact of the fire.
“The explosion caused dust to spread all around, I noticed it while preparing to go to work.”
On another note, since the fire hadn't been completely controlled, the police have sealed off the entrances to the fire site.
According to observations by Bernama, for safety purposes, the police barricaded the road to prevent public entry into the area and urged those gathering nearby to take photos to leave promptly.

Fire Department Urgently Evacuates Residents; 25 Injured, 5 Hospitalized
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhriz stated in a press release that the natural gas pipeline which leaked and triggered the explosion is estimated to be 500 meters long, and the incident site is near an apartment.
“Currently, it is not clear how many people are involved (in the evacuation).”
Meanwhile, as of 10:35 AM, about 25 injured citizens were receiving initial treatment at a temple near the incident location.
According to observations by Bernama, most of the injured had surface injuries, burns, and difficulty breathing, and were receiving initial treatment from the Ministry of Health medical teams.
It is known that 5 of the injured have been sent to Serdang Hospital for further treatment.
Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) confirmed that the major gas transmission line near Putra Heights, Puchong in Selangor caught fire at 8:10 this morning; however, the nearby 3 oil stations were not affected, only temporarily closed.

Petronas Confirms Major Gas Pipeline Triggered Fire; Nearby 3 Oil Stations Unaffected but Temporarily Closed
Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) confirmed that the main gas pipeline near Putra Heights, Puchong in Selangor caught fire at 8:10 AM this morning, but the nearby 3 oil stations were not affected, only temporarily closed.
Petronas announced that the affected transmission line has been discontinued, and all stakeholders have been notified.
“We are working closely with the authorities to address this incident, as the investigation is ongoing, we will provide more details when appropriate.”
In another statement, Petronas indicated that the 3 retail stations near the incident location, including Putra Heights Station, White Sands Avenue 2 Station, and Putra Bestari Station, were not affected.
Nonetheless, as a precautionary measure, these 3 stations have been temporarily closed, and customers can refuel at stations in USJ 20, USJ 6, and USJ 9.
Petronas assures that the safety of nearby communities, the environment, and the national gas supply remain the top priority for Petronas. 
Meanwhile, Environment Department Director Dato' Wan Abdul Latif stated that the Selangor Environment Department has deployed an advance team to the natural gas pipeline fire location to conduct air quality monitoring and preliminary assessments.
“The public is urged to stay away from areas near the fire.”
He told Bernama that once the department gathers all relevant information, further progress will be released through the media.

Electricity Supply Fully Restored in Subang Area; Aviation Authority Bans Drone Filming
Following the fire at the main gas pipeline near Putra Heights by Petronas Gas Berhad, causing a power outage in the Subang Jaya area of Selangor, electrical supply has now been fully restored.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) announced on its Facebook page that its technical team mobilized to assess the initial situation at the incident site this morning and proceeded to restore the electrical supply after the authorities confirmed safety.
TNB also stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates regularly.
The announcement mentioned that residents in areas where the power supply was affected can call TNB's hotline 15454 for further details.
Additionally, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) prohibits the public from operating drones and filming near the natural gas pipeline fire site to prevent any accidents, particularly ensuring the safety of the public and the rescue teams conducting aerial surveillance operations.
The aviation authority stated that the site of this incident is also located along a critical flight path, hence the importance of this ban to prioritize the safety of flying aircraft.
The authority also reminds that any flying activities, including drone operations involving public or property, are regulated by Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969, Sections 98 and 140 to 144 of the Malaysian Civil Aviation Regulations, and the Civil Aviation Directive.
