Three Malaysian Singer-Songwriter Heartthrobs Warmly Serenade Their Homeland

Three talented Malaysian singer-songwriters, Chen Wei Quan, Lin Yu Zhong, and Fang Jiong Bin, shared the stage for the first time on Malaysia Day at the Malaysian leg of the “Equatorial Love Songs” concert. Not only did they perform classic hits, they also donned traditional Malay outfits and, together with the entire audience, sang a rearranged version of “Using Malaysia’s Weather to Say I Love You.” The performance instantly brought the atmosphere to a climax and created heartfelt memories for Malaysia Day.

This concert saw the three expressing their love for their homeland through music. Lin Yu Zhong presented a special bilingual Chinese-Malay rendition of “Melody,” combining it with guitar ensemble to demonstrate Malaysia’s rich multicultural blend and harmony. Chen Wei Quan performed “The Island of Love in Sabah,” a song dedicated to Sabah, while Fang Jiong Bin sang “Penang Island Love Song,” expressing Penang’s romantic charm.

Besides new tracks, classics were also a must: Lin Yu Zhong’s “In The Rain” and “Landing,” Fang Jiong Bin’s “Bad Guy” and “Regret,” and Chen Wei Quan’s “Love Less Than Three” and “Nice Guy,” had the crowd singing along in unison, creating a touching and lively scene.

The mastermind behind the scenes of this concert was Malaysia-based-in-Taiwan musician Lin Le Wei. He flew back home to serve as music director, bringing together Golden Melody Award winners Jia Wang, Anna Zhuang Qixin, and Shio Guo Xiuyu as the angelic backing vocals, together with seasoned musicians, to create a night full of Malaysian flavor.

Even the trio’s overseas friend, Penny Tai, wasn't absent. She sent a large basket of flowers to congratulate them, even coming up with a new group name for them—“Fang·Yu·Quan The Three Handsomes”—and left her blessings: “Sing out the Equator Love Song, let it ripple through the universe—stay handsome and on fire in three waves!”
