(Johor, 7th) The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has pointed out that the Johor State Fisheries Department violated regulations by approving the transfer rights applications for 8 trawler vessels, and these vessels did not comply with the government's trawler elimination policy. The EAIC recommends disciplinary action by the Fisheries Department against the officials involved.
The EAIC issued a statement today saying it had received a complaint that the Johor Fisheries Department had approved ownership transfers and applications for 10 trawler vessels.
"The complaint alleges that these vessels did not comply with the government’s trawler buy-back policy."
The statement added that the authorities subsequently launched an investigation under Section 27(4) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009, and the findings showed that among the 10 vessels approved by the Fisheries Department, there were flaws in the ownership transfer applications for 8 of them.
As a result, the Commission decided to submit the case to the Fisheries Department’s disciplinary unit, and recommended taking disciplinary action against the relevant officials under Section 38 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.
